Third athlete test positive for Meldonium


The International Biathlon Union has suspended a second athlete after testing positive for Meldonium. This is the third incident involving this substance.

 

Meldonium was put on the WADA prohibited list for 2016 and so far one Russian cyclist and two biathlon athletes has tested positive. The first biathlon athlete was Olga Abramova of Ukraine. She had her sample collected in Ruhpolding in Germany on January 10. She has waived her right to have her B sample analysed and is waiting for the final decision taken by the IBU Anti-Doping Hearing Panel. The second biathlon athlete is yet to be named Meldonium was added to the WADA prohibited list in January, 2016 and belongs to group S4: Hormone and Metabolic Modulators.
