The award is given annually for exceptional achievement or effort in sport. 76-year-old Bengt Saltin won the award in front of 12 other nominees, according to Danmarks Radio (DR/http://www.dr.dk/Sporten/Oevrig_sport/2011/12/12/12174557.htm) Bengt Saltin was appointed by the Ministry of Culture\'s committee for sports research for the great importance he had on the development of sports research in Denmark. For many years, Bengt Saltin been known for his research on anti-doping area in Denmark, which has been at the highest international level. - He is an outstanding researcher and person who has significantly helped to open doors for not only young researchers abroad, but also for athletes, sports politicians and other Danes who represented Danish sports abroad. - Bengt Saltin has made the entire Danish sports world smarter, because his research is world class, and because he has managed to bridge the gap between laboratory and field athletics, says Minister of Culture, Uffe Elbaek (R).
