UCI appeals Contador case to CAS

The International Cycling Union (UCI) decided on March 24, 2011 – within the time frame stipulated by the Regulations – to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne against the Spanish Cycling Federation’s (RFEC) finding in the case of Alberto Contador.

CAS annuls the suspension of Carlos Queiroz

Lausanne, 23 March 2011 - The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has upheld the appeal filed by the Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz against the decision of the Portuguese Anti- Doping Authority (Autoridade Antidopagem de Portugal) dated 30 August 2010, pursuant to which a six month ban from all sports activities was imposed on him, following an incident which occurred during an anti-doping control of some of the Portuguese national team players prior to the FIFA World Cup 2010.

The danish cyclist Philop Nielsen is cleared by the Danish Sports Federation (DIF) after testing positive for Clenbuterol.

Press release : Patrik Sinkewitz provisionally suspended

On March 18, 2011, the UCI advised German rider Patrik Sinkewitz that he is provisionally suspended. The decision to provisionally suspend Mr Sinkewitz was made in response to a report from the WADA accredited laboratory in Lausanne indicating an Adverse Analytical Finding of Recombinant Human Growth Hormone in a blood sample collected from him at an in-competition test carried out by Antidoping Switzerland, authorized by the UCI, at the GP di Lugano on 27 February 2011.

Block suspended ten years

Colorado Springs, Colo. (March 18, 2011) USADA announced today that Mark Block, a coach and agent in the sport of track and field, has received a 10- year suspension from an independent three-member American Arbitration Association (AAA) panel for violating sport anti-doping rules.

FIS Anti-Doping Program 2011 underlines position of zero tolerance on doping

The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo will feature one of the most comprehensive anti-doping programs at a major international sports event following the Olympic Winter Games. In addition to in-competition testing after all competitions, the program includes a significant out-of-competition testing program, implemented in conjunction with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Similar programs were already executed prior to the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships since 2003 and the Olympic Winter Games in 2002, 2006 and 2010.

Spanish police arrests seven in doping raid

Police in Catalonia arrested seven amateur cyclists after investigating an alleged doping ring based in the city of Girona. The investigation started after police was tipped off by a professional cyclist.
